PARCC TESTING NEXT WEEK

We begin taking PARCC testing next week. On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 6th graders will take a test in the morning and a test in the afternoon. they will have lunch and electives as normal. A few tips for success:

  • Do not be absent unless absolutely necessary. Missing a session of the test means a student will be pulled out of class to take a make up, thus missing more class.
  • Do not be tardy.

Adversity Brochure Research

Today we began research for a brochure students will be creating about some type of adversity/disaster. At the start of class today, students chose a broad topic and three subtopics they will be researching for their informative/explanatory brochure. Some topics that were chosen include:

  • Colorado Weather Disasters
  • Worst Hurricanes In History
  • Meteor Collisions
  • Disasters in Australia
  • Largest Tsunami's in the Eastern Hemisphere
  • and more...

Students should be taking notes on their note catchers in their Language Arts spirals. They should not have to research at home if they are working in class. An example note catcher is here.

Unit 5

We have started Unit 5 today. Please read more about it on the What Are We Studying tab.

Today we did a self-led web quest to learn our vocabulary for our new unit. Students had to define the words, and then find examples of news articles, pictures, and videos conveying the message of the vocabulary words. Here are some pictures students found to metaphorically represent our vocabulary.

adversity
prevail
outcome
failure
conflict
disaster
influence

Please stay tuned for project information and again, feel free to read more about this unit here.
