Practice Assessment
Today (Tuesday, January 24) we are completing a practice assessment (RL 6.5, 6.6) in class for our upcoming assessment on Thursday, Feb. 2. Students will be practicing with a story we read and analyzed yesterday, "The Curse of the Poison Pretzel."

By the end of the day today (1/24) students will need to have the following fully completed:
1. Annotations (Purple sheet: "Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel")
2. Practice Assessment (Google Form and White Sheet)
3. Plot Mountain
Students will receive feedback on their practice assessment later in the week in order to better prepare them for next week. The rubric for the assessment can be found here.

Argumentative Essay
This week, students are writing and researching their own argumentative essay. This essay will close out the unit and be the final graded piece of learning evidence for Unit 3.
Students have had the following goals and deadlines in class. If working during class, students should have had no trouble keeping up with these deadlines and will not have to work at home. However, students who have not used their class time wisely may be behind.
Tuesday, January 10: Students choose their topic and create their argument statement.
Wednesday, January 11: Students write their three claims and begin research.
Thursday, January 12: Students complete their research.
Friday, January 13: Students write the first half of their five paragraph essay.
Tuesday, January 17: Students write the second half of their five paragraph essay.
Wednesday, January 18: Students peer edit and make final revisions.

The Power of Choice
Today we discussed Zephyr Core's mantra:
Everything we do is a choice, even if it might not feel like it is. We need to be aware of our choices and the consequences for our choices. This is going to be a focus for our behavior during 2nd semester.
We will focus our choices on M.A.C.
Maturity
